Essay Writing for College Students

Essay Writing is a course that provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge and understanding of the concept of writing an essay. This three-credits course covers not only the theories related to the structure of an essay but also provides sufficient practices for the students to develop their essay writing skills. Learning will be carried out with a student-centered learning strategy. The lecturer will encourage and facilitate students to actively discover various concepts that must be mastered. To fulfill these conditions, three main activities will be carried throughout the course: presentation, assignment, and discussion.

Through this course, students are expected to understand the basic concepts of essays, be able to develop ideas into good and correct essays, and master research theories in the field of English writing. Within this framework, carrying out reflective actions for quality improvement and innovative steps in writing essays are enforced.

To achieve the course objectives, students will be guided to write essays with the most basic structure. This course is very important to be mastered by students majoring in English, due to writing is one of the four main skills in English. By mastering the basic concepts of essay writing, students can develop their potential in writing and publish their writing in scientific journals.
