Intensive and Extensive Listening is specially designed based on EFLs’ needs with an emphasis on how student comprehend several short dialogues or simple monologues related to daily academic and social life through voice recording or video of native speakers with various dialects (e.g., British, American, Australian, Canadian, Indonesian, and etc). Listening materials are thematically arranged from simple to complex topic and presented in an interesting way in various learning activities such as: (1) finding and correcting errors; (2) matching; (3) sorting information; (4) rearranging words in sentence; (5) completing missing information in a table; (6) selecting true or false; (7) multiple choice; (8) comprehension questions; (9) ticking boxes or words in a list; and (10) missing lyrics.
This book facilitates students to master some listening skills such as (1) discriminate the variety of English, (2) distinguish between literal and implied meanings (i.e., general, specific, and detailed information), (3) recognize a particular meaning can be expressed in different grammatical forms, (4) recognize the communicative function of speech according to situations, participants, and goals, and (5) predict and conclude the situations, participants, goals by using student’s general knowledge.
